Thus assuring a life where people can thrive and realized their fullest potentials. We provide a platform where people can speak up on issues affecting their individual and societal problems and search together for everlasting solutions to those problems. Who We Are
The Self-Help and Development Everywhere (SHADE) was established in 2010 by a group of like-minded Sierra Leoneans with the aim of helping women and young girls to stand up and say no to certain harmful traditional practices and all other violence inflicted on women and girls in our society.
It started as a voluntary and community-based organization with the idea of not only fighting against domestic and gender-based violence but also encourage women to contribute meaningfully towards nation building after the civil conflict that has destroyed the country’s safety-nets and social fabrics. Aside its core mandate of fighting for rights of women and other disadvantaged groups, SHADE SL is also working in the area of anti-trafficking of persons, child protection, water and sanitation, Education
and general sensitization.






What We Do
SHADE-SIERRA LEONE works with people especially women and girls regardless their social, political/religious beliefs or ethnic orientation in making sure that they have a voice in shaping their future. Our work focuses primarily on issues relating to gender-based violence with primary focus on ending all forms of abuses against women and girls, boys and men whose voices are not heard. We also work on issues that has to do with health, protecting the environment and education.
Our main programme thrust is advocacy on Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) with primary focus on FGM, early marriage and human trafficking. We also work on issues related to:
